This creamy dip typically has a signature blend of cream cheese, mayonnaise, shredded cheddar cheese, crunchy bacon, almonds, and green onions. It comes together in no time. Simply mix all the ingredients together and refrigerate until chilled. Some recipes may vary, but most can be prepared in under 5 minutes. Why is it called Neiman Marcus Dip and Million Dollar Dip?
The original recipe was created by Helen Corbitt, the Director of Food Services, for the restaurant located in the flagship Neiman Marcus store in Dallas, Texas and served at the eatery in the store. It quickly became a popular classic and was later published in Helen Corbitt’s cookbook. It is such a rich and decadent dip that it earned itself an alternative, name, Million Dollar Dip.
Million Dollar Dip Recipe Ingredients
- MAYONNAISE: Typically this recipe is made with all mayo but I prefer it with the cream cheese because it cuts through the salty richness of the mayo. It adds flavor and richness and adds to the creamy texture of the dip. Use real mayo not dressing for this recipe.
- CREAM CHEESE: I always recommend full fat cream cheese for best flavor and consistency in the dip and make sure it’s room temperature so it’s easy to mix. Some recipes call for less but I prefer the whole block for the amount of add ins.
- BACON: Feel free to use thick cut bacon or regular. Cooked nice and crispy. It doesn’t matter how you decide to cook it - pan fry, oven baked, air fryer or use store bought real bacon bits - approximately ½-⅔ cup.
- ALMONDS: The recipe calls for slivered almonds. Some like to use chopped whole almonds or even almond flakes. Personally I like the texture of slivered almonds and I like to lightly toast mine for flavor and texture purposes but that is optional. For an unconventional option use toasted chopped pecans.
- GREEN ONIONS: These add delicious fresh flavor to the dip. Adjust amounts to taste if you wish.
- CHEDDAR CHEESE: Classic ingredient - I used a medium cheddar but feel free to use old cheddar for more flavor. Make sure to grate your own for better texture and flavor. Switch the flavor profile up by using pepper Jack or Gouda cheese.
- SPICES: I always like to add a touch of cayenne pepper, onion powder and garlic powder for flavor. Adjust amounts to taste.
- VARIATIONS: Some recipes may include prosciutto, red chili flakes, or hot sauce to give it an extra boost of flavor, or even chopped fresh or pickled jalapeños for a spicy kick. If you would like to add some extra tang to the recipe you could swap out a bit of the mayo for sour cream or for more of a bite feel free to stir in some blue cheese.
How To Make This Creamy Million Dollar Dip (full instruction below)
- Combine Ingredients: Combine the cream cheese, mayo and rest of the ingredients until really nice and smooth.
- Transfer to Serving Bowl & Chill: Transfer the cheesy mixture to serving bowl, cover and chill in the fridge until ready to serve, at least 30 mins for flavors to meld.
- Serve: With baguette slices/crostini, fresh vegetables or sliced red peppers, pita chips, your favorite crackers… you name it! It is even great as a spread for sandwiches or bagels. Leftovers store well in the fridge.
Million Dollar Dip Make Ahead & Storage
- MAKE AHEAD: Cook the bacon or toast the almonds, the day before preparing the dip. Store both in salad bag or container and the bacon in the fridge.
- STORAGE: Store dip or leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three to four days.
- FREEZING: We do NOT recommend freezing this dip, because it will alter the texture of the dip when thawed - the mayonnaise and cheese can separate or become grainy.

Recipe
Ingredients
- ½ cup lightly toasted slivered almonds
- 8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled (approximately ½-⅔ cup bacon bits)
- 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 4 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 pinch cayenne pepper
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon onion powder
For Garnish & Serving (optional)
- Extra Sliced green onions or chives for garnish
- Fresh chopped parsley for garnish
- Cracked Black pepper for garnish
- Crackers, potato chips, tortilla chips, crudités (cut vegetables), pita chips, corn chips, or pretzels for serving
Directions
- Toast the slivered almonds in a pan over medium heat until golden brown. Let cool. Cook the bacon until extra crisp. Drain the bacon and let it cool before chopping or crumbling it into bacon bits.
- In a large bowl combine the softened cream cheese and mayonnaise in a bowl and mix until smooth. Stir in the shredded cheese, bacon bits, green onions, slivered almonds, cayenne pepper, garlic powder and onion powder. Mix until combined. ( I use a fork or spoon to combine ingredients but for a quicker way to combine everything you can use and electric mixer)
- Transfer to serving bowl and serve right away but for better flavor I strongly recommend wrapping the bowl in plastic wrap or covering it with a lid and letting it chill in the fridge for at least 30-60 minutes for all the flavors to meld and develop nicely.
- Remove from fridge and serve with buttery crackers, or crisps of choice or veggies.
Recipe Note
- This is a very salty and savoury cheese dip so I don’t recommend adding any salt to the dip and I also recommend using buttery cracker but not crackers the might be overly salty. Plainer crisps will make this dip shine even brighter. Typically it gets served up with Ritz crackers cause they are so buttery but any of your favs would work.
